At GEM, an immense volume of information is arriving at high velocity on a daily basis; so high, that it's warped them into a time trap! The only means of escape is to decipher the value of the data through a Time Series analysis.

The Lost in Time Series Hackathon is a call for business professionals and IT experts are being called to take on the Time Series challenge and help GEM exploit real-life data to provide powerful business decisions. 

Teams will have 48 hours to solve 3 use cases, using only 1 technology of your choice. Are you up to step into the 4th dimension of data analysis to conquer the Time Series?

Time series are omnipresent in our businesses: power and gas consumption and forecasts, production realized and forecasts, weather forecasts, market prices ... pretty much every business object we manipulate end up represented as a time series. And we know it's a challenge for our IS to manipulate this data efficiently.

We are convinced that the amount of data represented in these time series will grow tremendously in the future, as time granularity becomes thinner on energy markets, and as we'll grow our renewable assets parks. 

To remain competitive and provide the best service to our clients, we need to use the most adapted technologies for each of our use case.

Don't see the tech you want to use? No problem, you're free to use the tech you know will help you escape the time series trap with the most results!

The Wind and Solar Challenge: your team will have to compute different aggregated metrics based on wind and solar real-time production and forecast data. This data gets updated frequently, so being able to recompute aggregated metrics quickly will certainly be a part of this challenge.

The Consumption Data Visualization Challenge: your team will be asked to restitute the aggregation consumption of our clients. Clients can have many delivery points and a time granularity of up to 30 minutes. The challenge will be to aggregate the data across delivery points quickly, and to timescale easily. Showing the result on a flexible chart will be appreciated!

The Position Management Challenge: your team will have to build a solution computing the aggregated delivery matrices of our deals, with a drill-down capacity using various axes. Being able to rebuild the full dataset from scratch will be a part of the challenge.

Each of these challenges will come with a set of data representing our current volumes plus a set of data representing the volumes we expect in the coming years.

When you filling out the application form, you will have two choices of techno. This will enable us to create teams based on similarities.

GEM will form the teams, based on application forms, and will create a dedicated work environment for each team to use throughout.

2 weeks before the hackathon, you will receive an email introducing you to your team members for the Lost in Time Series.
